The Cobourg Yacht Club Learn to Sail program was established in 1965 and offers instruction to everyone who wishes to discover the challenge and excitement of sailing – young and old alike.
Celebrating over 50 years of quality sailing instruction in the Cobourg community, Learn to Sail @ the CYC uses Sail Canada certified instructors. You will learn to handle a 24-foot sailboat, meeting all of the requirements to skipper or crew in the familiar waters of Lake Ontario.
The Basic Sailing course has 6 sessions on the water, including a sailing evaluation, as well as a text, over 190 minutes hours of online screencast videos, the Sail Canada Basic Cruising standard exam, and optionally (if you do not already have a PCOC card) the Pleasure Craft Operator Competency exam.
Discounts: If you are a member of the Cobourg Yacht Club, check the membership box indicating that your membership is current. Membership will be verified. Members are entitled to a 10% discount for themselves and family members. If you are not a member of CYC, and enrolling with another person in the same course, will check the "2nd person discount" and each person will receive a 10% discount off their course price. An Early Bird Registration is now available until 15 April 2018 for $20 off. Not to be combined with other discounts.

Learn to Sail - Keelboat
Basic Cruising is intended to develop individuals to be able to sail safely in familiar waters as both skipper and crew of a sloop-rigged keelboat of 6 to 10 meters with an outboard or inboard motor in moderate wind and sea conditions by day. This course is a minimum of 18 hours on the water with a Learn to Sail Instructor and a 3-hour examination session for the SailCanada Basic Cruising Examination and the Transport Canada Pleasure Craft Operators Card (PCOC). The course include a text book - Basic Cruising Skills - as well as an online learning Course based on the text book that includes over 190 minutes of screencasts. DATES: Weekends #1 Sat May 12-Sun May 20, Weekends #2: Saturdays and Sundays July 7&8, 14 &15 Weekends #3: Saturdays & Sundays July 21&22, 28&29, Weekdays #1: Mon-Thurs Jun 11-14 Weekdays #2: Mon-Fri July 16-19. Weekdays #3: Tues-Friday August 7-10. Week Nights #1: Tues & Thurs (water) & Wed (Lecture) 10 -31MaySOLD OUT. Class start and finish times will be provided in the Spring.
